Tailored Training on Fiscal Management: Virtual Academy Sessions and Resources

The Next Level Now (NLN) Collaborative has been tasked to provide technical assistance (TA) to state and local workforce systems. Fiscal training is a top tier request, often due to inadequate fiscal management or lack of funding. For instance, a local board recently requested intensive TA because budget cuts were making it difficult to provide quality services and maintain staffing.

Fiscal Management Virtual Academy:

During June 2024, the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) hosted a Fiscal Management Virtual Academy. This academy was held at no cost and was made possible by the NLN Collaborative, of which NAWDP is a partner. Over 1,790 individuals participated in this three-day virtual event and represented workforce professionals who are responsible for fiscal management within their own organizations.

The goal of the virtual academy was simple: to address financial management topics that are can be easily misconstrued and explore straight-forward strategies to ensure financial excellence, effective oversight, and adherence to the latest regulatory guidance, such as CFR 200, 2 CFR 2900, Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), and related WIOA regulations.

Throughout this series, trainer Zaskia Ruiz, Executive Vice-President and COO of KRA Corporation, covered an exhaustive range of topics that included financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, procurement standards, and ensuring compliance with specific audit requirements.
